Our Head of Department, Prof. Dr. Sibylle Baumbach, has been re-elected President of the German Shakespeare Society (Deutsche Shakespeare-Gesellschaft). She was reappointed for a further three-year term at the Society’s spring conference, held this year in Bochum.
Founded in Weimar in 1864, the German Shakespeare Society is one of the oldest literary societies in Europe. It brings together scholars, theatre practitioners, educators, and members of the wider public with an interest in William Shakespeare. The Society is dedicated to promoting the study of Shakespeare’s works in the German-speaking world and organises several events across Germany throughout the year.
