Study Abroad Programmes
The University of Stuttgart has study abroad programmes in numerous countries, including Australia, Canada, South Africa, the U.S. and the UK. The English Department’s Erasmus partner universities in the UK are
We have a partnership with the St. Francis Xavier University in Canada (More) and a partnership with the North Academy of World Languages in the U.S.A.
For more information, please come by the International Office or contact the Erasmus coordinator and study abroad advisor Dr. Martin Windisch. They will inform you about:
- the best time to go abroad
- the application process
- funding possibilities/scholarships
- recognition of credits earned at universities abroad (only Dr. Windisch)
- further queries regarding a stay abroad
Recognition of Credits Earned Abroad
To ensure that your courses will be accredited after your return to Stuttgart, we will be happy to advise you on course selection before your stay abroad. Courses that entail workloads which are equivalent to courses at our Department will be accredited after your return. For more information, please contact Dr. Windisch.
Please note, however, that we are unable to accept any classes taken abroad for the module “Linguistic and Literary Competence” in the Master of Education degree. This module requires a 60-minute oral exam and therefore cannot be substituted with another class.

Application deadlines for studying abroad and teaching assistantships in the UK and the USA, and in Australia, Canada and South Africa.
Application deadlines:
- 1 July for a one- or two-semester stay starting from February of the following year.
- 1 December for a one- or two-semester stay starting from July of the following year.
- Exception Deakin University:
- 1 December is the deadline for both a stay starting from July and a stay starting from November.

- 15 October for a one- or two-semester stay at a U.S. or Canadian university.

Application deadlines:
- 10 November for teaching assistantships in the USA

06 January for a position as a teaching assistant in the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand (online application).
